Family Planning at St, Mary's (Harrow Road) Hospital.
About three hundred borough residents are confined annually in St,
Mary's (Harrow Road) Hospital and, in June, 1968, it was agreed that they
should be included in arrangements made by Westminster City Council and
the hospital authorities to introduce family planning to patients while
they are still in hospital,
A health visitor of the Westminster City Council visits recently
delivered women in the maternity wards and discusses family planning with
tham if a woman then requests contraceptive advice, she is given an
appointment at an adjoining Westminster City Council clinic. She is given
advice and an initial supply of contraceptives and is then referred to the
appropriate Family Planning Association clinic in this borough for followup
and further treatment.
The great advantage of the arrangement is that family planning can
be discussed when the patient is free from domestic and other duties, and
is in a receptive frame of mind and more likely to benefit from the advice
given,
MARRIAGE GUIDANCE.
Grants were again made by the Council to the under-mentioned
organisations in respect of their work with residents of the borough
during the year :-
£
London Marriage Guidance Council 650
Catholic Marriage Advisory Council 375
Facilities continued to be provided free of charge at the Lancaster
Road Welfare Centre, 63 Lancaster Road, W.11., and at the South
