Play Groups.
This particular type of care for the pre-school child satisfies a real
need in the community and the demand for, and interest in, facilities
continue to increase. Many of them are organised and run by Parents*
Committees and there are also several voluntary organisations with strong
interests; some of these organisations are actively managing play groups
while others are advisory.
One useful function of the latter is the securing and maintenance of
adequate standards of accommodation for play groups within their
particular sphere of influence and this is of material assistance to the
Council in the exercise of their functions under the Nurseries and ChildMinders
Regulation Act, 1948. Many of the larger play groups are already
registered under this Act and, as a result of the amendments contained in
the 1968 Act, many more will require to register.
