THE DENTAL SERVICES
Mr. M.C. Downer,
Principal Dental Officer
STAFF.
On 31st December, 1968, the staff consisted of the principal dental
officer and three whole-time dental officers supported by four dental
surgery assistants.
The overall staff position remained unchanged during 1968, but
Mrs. M.C. McNicholl joined the professional establishment in April.
PREMISES AND EQUIPMENT.
Four dental surgeries were in use during the year, and major
re-equipment took place in the Walmer Road and North Kensington
surgeries where new units were installed with high and low speed air
turbines, and provision for low-seated dentistry.
The appearance of the North Kensington dental clinic was also
improved by partial redecoration.
New instrument cabinets, high suction aspirators and automatic
amalgam mixers were provided in all four clinics and X-ray machines
were in use at Walmer Road and Chelsea.
SCHOOL DENTAL INSPECTIONS.
Routine dental inspections took place in forty-one infant and
junior departments of primary schools, in three secondary schools, and
in two nursery schools during the year.
Approximately two-thirds of the primary school children were
covered, and it is hoped to inspect most of the primary schools
during 1969.
