The men of the adult centre had their usual summer outings to
Parliament Hill Fields and to Richmond Park. Their last outing took
the form of a Sports Day at Richmond.
There was the usual number of visitors both from this country
and abroad, and at the junior centre facilities were provided for two
students to obtain practical experience in the work of the centre in
connection with their diploma courses.
SPECIAL UNIT FOR SUBNORMAL CHILDREN
In my report for 1966 I mentioned the Special Unit for retarded
children between the ages of three and five years and said that there
was reason to believe that this unit would be of value in preparing
for training centre admission many mentally retarded children whose
future placement might otherwise have been in doubt.
During the year. two children have been transferred to the junior
training centre, one to a normal school and one to a school for the
physically handicapped. There are ten children in the unit at the
present time.
