due to overcrowding of the permanent teeth through early loss of the
primaries, and to provide for efficient mastication of food during these
important years of development.
Dental Officers are being encouraged to treat the more everyday
orthodontic cases in their own clinics.

Table: The ratio of filled to extracted teeth in the children treated is not as favourable as might appear from the statistics because, since regular general anaesthetic extraction sessions were only held in one clinic in the borough during the year, the practice in the remainder was to refer patients to the hospital service for necessary extractions.
