During the year, 223 inspections of outworkers' premises were
made, but in no case was action necessary to prevent work being carried
out in unwholesome premises.
No instance of infectious disease occurring in premises where
home work is carried on was reported during the year.
BASEMENT BAKEHOUSES
The Factories Act, 1961 (Section 70), requires the Council to
inspect in every fifth year all basement bakehouses in the borough for
which certificates of suitability have been issued. The certificates
continue to operate if the Council are satisfied that the bakehouses are
still suitable.
The last quinquennial review was made in 1963, and at the
present time there are 6 basement bakehouses in use in the borough.
They are as follows:-
