By the end of the year, thirty-nine hostels had been
registered under the byelaws. Notices were served requiring
the remedy of certain defects and deficiencies and the
following is a summary of the works required:-

FACTORIES
Section 128 of the Factories Act, 1937, requires the
Medical Officer of Health to make an annual report in regard
to the Council's functions under the Act. The following
tables contain a summary of the inspections made and the
defects found and remedied within the Borough during 1952:-
