The Council's proposal to open a new Maternity and Child
Welfare Centre (including an Infant Welfare Centre and Day Nursery)
in South Kensington proceeded with difficulty. Eventually
premises were acquired and plans were in the course of preparation
by the end of the year. Owing to the changes under the
National Health Service Act, 1946, it wa6 impossible for the
Council to complete the scheme, and the project has now been
transferred to the London County Council for completion.
