Dispensary Service.
One thousand and fifty-five new patients were examined.
Of these, 288 were found to be suffering from respiratory
tuberculosis, 27 from non-respiratory tuberculosis, 74 were
still under observation for diagnosis at the end of the year,
and 666 were found to be non-tuberculous.

The following table shows the number of cases added to, and the number removed from, the dispensary notification register during the year:-

Specimens of sputum examined were 578, of which 107 were
found to contain tubercle bacilli; 1,665 radiological examinations
were made; and 2,688 visits were paid to the homes of
patients by the health visitors.
Nine patients made thirty-seven attendances at the
dental clinic.
One hundred and twenty three patients received 2,377
artificial pneumothorax treatments.
Grants of extra nourishment were made in 52 cases; beds
and bedding were loaned to 14 patients; and the district nurses
attended 20 patients in their homes and paid a total of 2,004
visits.
Allowances for Tuberculous Persons Undergoing Treatment.
The Government's scheme to give maintenance allowances to
tuberculous persons undergoing treatment was continued throughout
1947.
