HOME HELPS.
Sixteen applications were received during the year for the provision of home helps under the
council's scheme. The assistance requested was granted in 14 cases for a period of 14 days each,
and in one case for three weeks ; and one applicant cancelled her request. The gross cost of the
scheme to the council during the year was £23 5s. 0d.
SUPPLY OF EXTRA NOURISHMENT FOR EXPECTANT AND NURSING
MOTHERS AND FOR INFANTS.
The expenditure on extra nourishment to expectant and nursing mothers and infants during
1933 showed a further increase. At the beginning of the year, the council estimated for an
expenditure of £900, but owing to the difficult economic conditions still prevailing, it was
necessary for the council to reconsider their expenditure on extra nourishment, and a further
sum of £300 was provided to enable them to continue this service until the end of the financial
year, namely, the 31st March, 1934.
In the year January to December, 1933, 2,177 grants of milk were made by the council's
applications sub-committee. Three hundred and ninety-six of the grants were in response to new
applications, and the remaining 1,781 were renewals of grant. Under the council's scheme, 59,764
pints of fresh milk were granted free of charge at a cost of £812 0s. 8d. ; 2,843 packets of dried milk
were granted free of charge at a cost of £203 4s. 5d.

Six applications for dinners were granted ; three of these were new applications, and three
were renewals. The cost of the dinners amounted to £3 0s. 0d.
BIRTH CONTROL.
In 1931, the council resolved that they would pay a fee of five shillings in respect of each married
woman referred for birth control advice by a Kensington infant welfare centre to the North
Kensington Women's Welfare Centre (Birth Control Clinic). The council have laid down
conditions controlling their grants. The medical officer of the infant welfare centre must furnish
to the birth control clinic a certificate stating that the patient is a nursing mother and that further
