The deaths from cancer are gradually growing in number, not only in Kensington, but throughout
the whole country, and this disease, with the exception of affections of the heart, is now the
commonest cause of death.
During the year, a Departmental Committee on Cancer was appointed by the Minister of
Health for the purpose of bringing together and analysing all the evidence available in regard to
this disease, and if the labours of this Committee do not lead to any actual discovery, the public
will, at least, know the present position of scientific knowledge in regard to cancer.
In connection with the work of this Departmental Committee, every case of cancer of the
breast proving fatal in Kensington in 1923 has been investigated by officers of the Public Health
Department, and the particulars obtained have been forwarded to the Ministry of Health.
TUBERCULOSIS.
During the year 280 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis and 123 cases of non-pulmonary
tuberculosis were notified.

The following table shows the number of cases of both forms of the disease notified in the Borough and the several Wards therein during each year since 1913.
