V.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors of the
Royal Borough of Kensington.
Ladies and Gentlemen,—
I have the honour to submit my fifth annual report, which contains, in
accordance with the Regulations of the Local Government Board, a summary of the
action taken for the prevention of disease and an account of the sanitary state of the
Borough of Kensington during the year 1913.
Regulations prohibiting the use of certain underground rooms as sleeping
places have been framed and approved by the Local Government Board. Provisional
agreements have been made with the Kensington Tuberculosis Dispensary and the
Brompton Hospital for the dispensary treatment of consumptive patients. A
station has also been provided for the cleansing of school children and other
persons who have become infested with vermin.
The work of the Public Health Committee in securing these results has
been exceptionally heavy, as has the work of the Public Health Department in the
administration of the new Regulations and the new Tuberculosis Order. In these
circumstances I desire to acknowledge the zeal and loyalty with which the staff
have carried out their extended duties, and to thank the Committee and the
Council for the consideration and support they have given to the Department
throughout the year.
I have the honour to be,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
J. E. SANDILANDS,
Medical Officer of Health.
Public Health Department,
Town Hall, Kensington, W.
14th May, 1914.
