The new cases of consumption, that is to say, the cases notified in 1913, without having been
notified in any previous year, numbered 628. Twenty-two deaths from consumption also occurred
in persons who died unnotified. The 221 notified cases of non-pulmonary tuberculosis, which was
not made notifiable until February 1st, 1913, were necessarily new. Non-pulmonary tuberculosis
was also certified as the cause of death in 29 unnotified persons.

Of those who died from consumption in 1913, 30 had been known to the Department for more
than 12 months, as compared with 19 persons dying in 1912, who had also been known for the
same period of time. The duration of the disease from the date of notification to the date of death
exceeded 2 years in 13 cases, and in one case exceeded 7 years. The distribution of the new cases
among the several districts in the Borough was as follows:—
