INFLUENZA.
Seventy-five deaths were registered from Influenza, as compared with 49, 52 and 63 in the
preceding three years; 48 in the Town sub-district, and 27 in Brompton. The deaths in London,
as a whole, were 1,350 against 689, 895 and 967 in the preceding three years.
DEATHS FROM OTHER "GENERAL" DISEASES.
Syphilis was the cause of 21 deaths, 17 of them in the Town sub-district.
Puerperal Diseases were the causes of four deaths, 3 in the Town sub-district; three deaths
were registered as having occurred from accidents connected with childbirth. These seven deaths
were equal to 2.0 per 1,000 live births, compared with rates of 2.0, 4.7, and 2.6 per 1,000 in the
preceding three years respectively.
Erysipelas was the cause of four deaths, 3 of them in the Town sub-district. The notifications
were 129 in number.
Tuberculosis in its various forms was the cause of 261 deaths, as compared with 273, 299, and
264 in the nreceding three years; 228 in the Town sub-district, and 33 in Brompton; 51 of them
under five years of age. Tubercular Phthisis (.Pulmonary Tuberculosis') was the certified cause
of 150 deaths (133 and 17 in the Town and Brompton sub-districts respectively), and "Phthisis"
of 31; total 181, or 10 per 1,000 of the population. Tubercular Meningitis was the cause of
36 deaths; Tubercular Peritonitis of 14, and General Tuberculosis of 18. The deaths from
tubercular diseases were, proportionately to population, not so numerous in Brompton as in the
Town sub-district. The total deaths were in the proportion of 1-44 per 1,000 of the population.
