INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The infantile mortality, or the proportion of deaths under one year of age to registered
births, is an important factor in vital statistics. The deaths under one year, which in the three
preceding years had been 498, 452, and 433 respectively, were 428 (or 420 after correction for the
53rd week) in 1908; being equivalent to 122* per 1,000 births, and 28 below the decennial average.
The deaths under one year in the Town sub-district (379) were equivalent to 128 per 1,000
births, those in Brompton (49) to 91 per 1,000.
* This figure was exceeded in 7 Metropolitan Boroughs : in 20 others it was less.
