IMPROVEMENT GRANTS (HOUSING ACT, 1949 - Section 20 as amended by
Section 16 of the Housing Repairs and Rents Act, 1954)

I am indebted to the Borough Architect and Director of Housing, Mr J, Pritchard Lovell, F R, I B A, F. I. Arb , P P I. Hsg., for the following figures-

19571958
Number of applications received725
Number referred to Public Health Department for comment1123
Number of Grants approved1021

The increase in the number of applications compared with last year would appear
to be due to the publicity given to the conversions by the Council of properties in
Cedarne Road This has had the effect of encouraging owners of property to take
advantage of the facilities available under the Act.
