CAUSES OF DEATH.
These are classified in Table 1 at the end of this Report,
which shows that the five commonest causes were: Heart Disease
582 (25.29% of the total Respiratory Diseases 226(14.97%)
Cancer 207 (13.71%) Intra cranial lesions 117 (7.75%) ;
Tuberculosis (all forms) 93 (6.16%)
Maternal Mortality.
There were 5 deaths resulting from pregnancy and childbirth
giving a maternal mortality rate of 2.71 per 1,000 births.
Infant Mortality.
The causes of death of the 114 children who died before
attaining the age of one year were:-
Mecsles 2
Tuberculosis 1
Meningitis (not tuberculous) 2
Bronchitis & pneumonia 26
Influenza 1
Gastro-enteritis 25
Injury by birth 8
Congenital ma1formatins 24
Premature birth 22
Other causes 3 114
The Infant Mortality Rate was per 1,000 births.
