Total 222
The Table on page 35 gives information as to the number of non-notifiable infectious disease

FOOD POISONING
Two cases of food poisoning were notified during the year, details of which were as follows:—
1. Male, aged 59 years, lodging at a hostel in the Borough. No other cases of illness
reported from the hostel, where the patient only had bread and butter and tea. He died in
hospital a week after the onset of his symptoms and it was concluded that he must have been
given or picked up some contaminated food.
2. Female, aged 16 years, a member of the staff of an infectious disease hospital. No
suspicious food, other than some cooked ham, could be traced, but other members of the staff
who partook of the same ham showed no signs of illness. Diarrhoea persisted for four days
and B. aertryche was isolated. The recovery was uneventful.
