HEALTH PROPAGANDA
Owing to pressure of other duties no special local health propaganda was carried out by the
Department during the year, but full co-operation was given in the National Health Campaign which
was held during the six months ending March, 1938. Posters were exhibited month by month on
the Council's buildings and vehicles, appropriate literature was distributed to Sunday Schools, youth
organisations, etc., and large 16-sheet posters were displayed at two strategic points in the Borough.
The supply of leaflets mentioned in previous reports was maintained and these were distributed
through the various clinics as well as from the Town Hall. During the year a special leaflet summarising
the facilit'es at the various clinics was printed specially for distribution through the Post
Office in accordance with the arrangements made between the Minister of Health and the PostmasterGeneral.

The British Social Hygiene Council, through its Fulham branch, have continued their propa-ganda work in the Borough and they held the following meetings during the year:— SINGLE LECTURES.

FOOD CONTRACTS
During the year the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee considered the desirability of
obtaining supplies of provisions, etc., for the Maternity Home and the Babies' Hospital under contract.
Hitherto supplies have been purchased by the matrons at the most convenient local shop, it being
left to each matron to satisfy herself that the goods supplied were of a reasonable price, having
regard to the quality. In practice this system probably worked quite well, especially having regard
to the smallness of the old Maternity Home. As no figures were available on which to invite tenders
for a contract, the Committee decided to defer inviting tenders until the new Maternity Home had been
in operation for six months. Accordingly, in the summer tenders were invited and contracts entered
into for a period of six months, commencing on 1st October.
