The housing inspectors were in the main, engaged on routine house to house surveying
of the whole district followed by the service of repair notices under Section 17 of the Housing
Act, 1930. It was found in actual practice, however, that these inspectors became from time
to time overwhelmed with the supervision of the works required by their notices, with the
result that further'surveys had to be postponed.
Arrangements were, therefore, made to abolish this system at the end of the year, and
to divide the Borough into ten districts instead of seven, each inspector being responsible for
all sanitary and housing work in his area.
