BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION OF FOOD
The bacteriological examination of samples is carried out by the
Public Health Laboratory Service at County Hall.
No charge is made to the Council for this service and during the year the following samples were submitted for examinations:-
Water | 29 |
Ice Cream | 61 |
Steak and Kidney Pie | 1 |
Meat Pie | 1 |
Roasted Chickens | 2 |
Shrimps | 1 |
Total | 95 |
All were reported upon as satisfactory with the exception of the
steak and kidney pie which was found to contain food poisoning organisms.
The large increase in the number of ice-cream samples submitted for
examination, 61 as against 22 in the preceding year, was the result of a
check on itinerant ice-cream vendors and in particular those selling
soft ice-cream. The results proved this class of trader, mostly from
outside the Borough, to be of satisfactory standard.
THE MILK (SPECIAL DESIGNATION) REGULATIONS. 1960
The following table shows the number of dealers' licences in force at the 31st December, 1963:-
Sale of tuberculin tested milk | 56 |
Sale of pasteurised milk | |
Sale of sterilised milk |
The expiry date of all licences is 31st December, 1965.
THE MILK AND DAIRIES (GENERAL) REGULATIONS. 1969
At the end of the year there were 55 registered distributors with
premises in the Borough and 65 premises within the Borough from which milk
is distributed.
ANALYSIS OF MILK

to the Public Analyst whose report appears on pages 51 to 54 .
