Number of meals issued during the year 13,510
Average weekly supply 260
Average number of old people supplied 60
Every weekend, voluntary helpers take homemade soup to old people
who are too ill to eat solid food or have just come out of hospital.
Lunch Club
In response to an obvious need, a Lunch Club for pensioners
sponsored and subsidised by the Old People's Welfare Committee opened
on 1st October, 1963 at St. John's Church Hall by arrangement with the
Church authorities. Additional equipment was found by the Committee and
the Women's Voluntary Services who prepare and serve, mainly from bulk frozen
foods, an average of 60 lunches each Tuesday and Thursday at a charge of one
shilling per lunch.
The majority of the old people come from West Chelsea and obviously
benefit, not only from the food, but from the warm and friendly atmosphere
of the Club, which is now working to capacity.
At Christmas time the old people enjoyed a special lunch through
the generosity of the Old People's Welfare Committee and the Women's
Voluntary Services.
