INFANT MORTALITY
Deaths of infants under one year totalled 16 as compared with
12 during 1960, giving a rate of 24 0 1 per 1,000 live births. The
infant mortality rate for England and Vales is 21„*f<,
The increase in deaths during the year was mainly due to the incidence
of prematurity which was returned as 9 as against 2 in the previous
year. It will be noted from the following summary that of the 16
deaths recorded, 15 occurred before the age of one week.
