A PROPOSED DAY HOSPITAL FOR THE CHRONIC AND ELDERLY SICK.
A gift of £25,000 from the King Edward's Hospital Fund for
London has enabled the South West Metropolitan Regional Hospital
Board and the Chelsea Group Hospital Management Committee to undertake
the construction of a Day Hospital for the chronic and elderly
sick. It is proposed that this new building will be erected within
the grounds of St. Luke's Hospital.
The objects of this new centre will be to shorten the stay
and facilitate the discharge of the elderly and chronic sick from
general and geriatric hospitals, and to give the patients in this
category the opportunity of remaining at home for as long as
possible.
The hospital will be suitable for patients who require
prolonged physical treatment but who eventually become fit enough
to discharge. It will also be of great value to those who will
never be in the position of managing fully without hospital
supervision but who could be discharged provided they received
treatment and care during the day.
