CREMATION SERVICE
In October of this year, an agreement was concluded with the
General Cemetery Company whereby cremation facilities became
available at West London Crematorium, Kensal Green, for persons
who, at the time of death, resided or were normally resident in the
Borough of Chelsea. At this time it is not possible to comment upon
public reaction to this scheme, but the publicity which is maintained
will, it is hoped, eventually impress upon everyone the benefits accruing
from cremation.
Cremation is considered to be more hygienic than earth burial,
as well as more convenient for relatives and mourners, whilst its
adoption obviously results in the conservation of land which is
urgently needed for housing, agriculture and industrial use. The
following extract from the official journal of the Cremation Movement
is indicative of the trend of thought in this respect,,
