The Borough Council has not maintained mortuary premises for many
years. An agreements however, exists with Hammersmith Borough Council
whereby excellent facilities are available at their Mortuary in Fulham
Palace Road, W.6. During the year, one hundred and fifty-five PostMortems
without Inquests, and forty-three Postmortems with Inquests were
performed in respect of Chelsea residents.
MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
Sixty-two examinations occurred in respect of persons proposing to
enter the Council's employments and subsequently enjoying the benefit of
the authority's superannuation scheme# In all cases satisfactory reports
were submitted to the Borough Treasurer,, One examination was made on
behalf of a provincial authority involving the transfer of an employee, and
two officers were examined owing to their indifferent health.
MASS RADIOGRAPHY
Tuberculosis of the lungs is an infectious diseases and can be
contracted from someone who is already afflicted. Great advances have,
in recent years, been made in combatting the disease. Facilities for the
detection of unsuspected Tuberculosis of the lungs are available throughout
the year from Mondays to Fridays in each week-, except when a particular
day coincides with a public holidays at Centres within easy travelling
distance of Chelsea. It is also anticipated that a Mobile X-Ray Unit will
visit the Borough during the coming summer. Shortly before Christmas a
similar Unit was operated at the Chelsea Community Centre, 385, King's Road,
when three hundred and sixty-six persons submitted themselves for examination.
In only two instances was it necessary for more detailed examinations to be
made,, resulting in the persons concerned being referred to their own doctors
for conditions other than of a tuberculous mature.
