"PART III" ACCOMMODATION
The Council is empowered by Section 47 of the National Assistance Act,
1948, as amended by the National Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1951,to make
applications for Court Orders for the removal to hospitals or institutions,
persons who are physically incapacitated by reason of age or infirmity, who
are living in insanitary conditions and need care and attention.
The London County Council maintain two institutions in the Borough
of Chelsea - (a) 367, Fulham Road (adjacent to St. Stephen's Hospital), and
(b) "King's Mead", Dovehouse Street.
During the year it was found necessary for eleven persons to be
accommodated at "King's Mead", but in every case voluntary transfer was
accomplished. The possessions of those concerned were, of course, in the
safe keeping of the County authorities.
It is pleasing to report excellent and amicable arrangements have long
existed between institutional authorities and members of the Public Health
Department whereby admissions are speedily completed.
