FOOD HYGIENE (Continued)
Penalties
(x) aperson guilty of an offence against any of
these Regulations shall be liable to a fine not
exceeding £100, or to imprisonment for a term not
exceeding three months, or to both, and in the
case of a continuing offence, to a further fine
not exceeding £5 for each day during which the
offence continues after conviction.
This new legislation has placed additional duties on the Council,,
In the early part of the year, 14.6 food premises were on the Council's
Register, but information as to rooms or accommodation used in connection
with the varied trades was not available. The traders concerned were,
therefore, sent letters explaining the requirements of the Food Hygiene
Regulations, and requesting the completion of forms upon which they would
give the additional data required. Following consideration of the
information provided;, the Council's Inspectors visited the traders and in
each case fully discussed the action appropriate, when it was generally
found that a spirit of co-operation prevailed.
There are also a further 344 food premises which are not
registered, in respect of which considerable progress has been made in
implementing the Regulations , and a more detailed report will appear in my
next annual review of food hygiene in the Borough.
