Forty-three notifications of Scarlet Fever were received in the Public
Health Department during 1955, as compared with 26 in 1954.
MEASLES
Seven hundred and thirty-six notifications of Measles were received
during 1955, as compared with 104 and 549 in 1954 and 1953 respectively.
During 1955, two hundred and sixteen notifications were submitted as
compared with 196 in 1954 and 260 in 1953.
It must again be stressed that 91% of the sufferers were residents of
institutions not controlled by this authority. The premises concerned
were such that it was difficult to prevent the spread of infection among
this particular type of inmates. Nevertheless the Borough Council has been
at great pains to bring about the eradication of the incidence of dysentery.
