PUBLIC MORTUARY FACILITIES.
For some years now no mortuary premises have existed in the Borough;
fortunately however excellent facilities are available, under an agreement
with Hammersmith Borough Council, at their Mortuary in Fulham Palace Road,
W.6 (Telephones RIVerside 1813) which is also adjacent to the Coroner's
Court for this area. During 1954 two hundred and seventeen Post Mortems
without Inquests and fifty-three Post Mortems with Inquests were carried
out in respect of Chelsea residents.
MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
During the year, fifty-five examinations were carried out to ascertain
whether persons appointed to fill positions in the Council's employment
were fit for admission to the authority's superannuation scheme. As a result
of the examinations
51 proved successful;
2 were deferred for re-examination; and
2 proved unacceptable for superannuation purposes.
WATER SUPPLY
The provision of water for both commercial and domestic users is made
by the Metropolitan Water Board. During the year, two complaints regarding
the unsatisfactory condition of water supplies were received. In the first
instance, the complainant decided to have the supply, subject to the
Metropolitan Water Board's permissions direct from the rising main, and in
the second, approach was made to the owners of a large block of flats to
have the storage tanks cleansed.
Thirty-one samples of water were taken at the Council's Public Baths,
and in every instance a satisfactory report was received,,

As a result of investigation by the Council's Sanitary Inspectors, the following provisions were made:-

Supplies to tenements36
Taps on main for drinking purposes36
Burst Pipes repaired6
Cisterns cleansed, covered or repaired6
