The Registrar-General has estimated the child population of Chelsea to
be 8,080, made up as follows:-
Children under five years of age 3,590
Children between 5 and 14 years 4,490 8,080
The percentage of the child population between the years 0 to 15 years
which benefited from the advantages of Immunisation was approximately 65
(63 in 1951), whilst the precentages for the age groups 0-5 and 5-14- were
47(4.7) and 79(75) respectively. The rates in parentheses are applicable to
1951. As was the case last year, it is apparent that full advantage is not
being taken of this worthy facility. To obviate the possibility of an outbreak
of Diphtheria it is considered that at least 80 out of every 100 children should
receive immunisation, and the London County Council, who are responsible for
this service are actively engaged in publicising the dangers which could arise
if parents allowed themselves to be lulled into a sense of false security.
