PHARMACY AND POISONS ACT. 1933.
The provisions of the Act and the Poisons Rules relating to the
retailing of poisons specified in Part II of the Poisons List were
administered throughout the year.
The number of listed sellers placed on the Council's register was
50 (48 retentions and 2 new applications).
All applications are investigated to ensure that records are
properly maintained, labelling efficiently performed, storage accommodation
is adequate, and that sales are only made by employees nominated on
application forms., In every instance it was found that the requirements
of the Act and Poisons Rules were being complied with, whilst subsequent
enquiries revealed that all concerned were well aware of their
responsibilities in such matters.
As a general rule the poisons retailed were insecticides, rodent
exterminants, hair dyes, and household ammoniac
Applications for inclusion and/or retention in the Council's
register are considered by the Public Health and Baths Committee each
Spring. When approval has been expressed to applications, appropriate
entries are made for a period of twelve months (1st May to 30th April).
