Stillbirths.—During the year 32 stillbirths were registered in Chelsea,
20 being males and 12 females. Of these, stillbirths of non-parishioners
account for 23 (14 males and 9 females) and must be deducted. In
addition, there were 8 stillbirths amongst Chelsea mothers outside the
Borough (6 males and 2 females). The corrected number of stillbirths
is, therefore, 17, which represents a rate for the Borough of 0.29 per
1,000 of the population, as compared with 0.45 for London as a whole.
MARRIAGES.
There were 678 marriages registered in the Borough during the year
(592 in 1932). The marriage rate (number of marriages per 1,000 of
population) was 11.5. In the preceding year the marriage rate was
9.9.
DEATHS.
During the year 2,002 deaths were registered in Chelsea. Of these,
deaths of non-residents accounted for 1,394. In addition, there were
193 deaths of Chelsea residents in Institutions and elsewhere outside
the Borough. The total number of Chelsea deaths for the year was
therefore 801, equivalent to an annual death-rate of 13.6 per 1,000 of
population.
The death rate for England and Wales for 1933 was 12.3, and for
London 12.2.
