From Table No. 3 it will he observed that the number of births of
Chelsea Infants in Hospitals and elsewhere outside Chelsea accounted for
25-3 per cent, of the total births. In the preceding year the percentage
was 22.0.
Chelsea births in Hospitals outside the Borough were distributed during
the year as follows:—St. George's Hospital, 63; Oueen Charlotte's
Hospital, 26; General Lying-in Hospital, 10; Royal Free Hospital,
4; Clapham Maternity Hospital, 4; Charing Cross Hospital, 4; Westminster
Hospital, 3; City of London Institution, 3 ; Middlesex Hospital,
2 ; Royal Northern Hospital, 2 ; St. Thomas's Hospital, 2 ; Miscellaneous
Hospitals, 10.
Chelsea births in Hospitals and Homes within the Borough during the
year numbered 174. These were distributed as follows :—St. Luke's
Hospital, 134 ; Ormond Maternity Home, 21 ; St. Stephen's Hospital,
4 ; Wilbraham Nursing Home, 9 ; Chelsea Hospital for Women, 3 ;
Illegitimate Births.—The following Table shows the number of
illegitimate births and the illegitimate birth rate per 1,000 births. In
1929, 155 such births were registered in Chelsea, and 28 inward transfers
and 111 outward transfers were made by the Registrar General. The
nett figure for the Borough is therefore 72, of which 41 were under
observation by the Health Visitors at the end of the year.

Stillbirths.—During the year 25 stillbirths were registered in Chelsea,
18 being males and 12 females. Of these, still-births of non-parishioners
account for 6 (3 males and 3 females) and must be deducted. In addition,
there were 7 still-births amongst Chelsea mothers outside the Borough
(6 males and 1 female). The total number of still-births for the year
Was 26, of which 16 were males and 10 females. Four of the total
number were illegitimate.
MARRIAGES.
There were 692 marriages registered in the Borough during the year
