The health of the Nursery has been remarkably good. Dr. Margaret
Emslie is Medical Officer to the Nursery and makes a fortnightly
inspection of the children.
PUERPERAL FEVER AND PUERPERAL PYREXIA.
Three cases of Puerperal Fever and eleven cases of Puerperal Pyrexia
were notified during the year. Of these ten were treated in hospital.
None of these proved fatal.
PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH.
Three deaths associated with complications in childbirth occurred
during the year. Two of the deaths followed Caesarian section operation
in Hospital. The third case had refused midwifery assistance but was
removed to Hospital one hour after delivery of a still-born child, owing
to the development of severe eclampsia. Death supervened within
24 hours.
MATERNAL MORTALITY.
The following table shows the Maternal mortality in Chelsea during
the past two years.

in the number of births in the Borough.)
