HOUSING OF THE WORKING CLASSES ACT.
King John's Court.—The Board has had under consideration
for several years what is called the King John's Court
Scheme. The area was surveyed several times by the Sanitary
Committee.
In July 1894, the Board passed a resolution that the
closeness, narrowness and bad condition of the buildings and the
want of light, air, proper conveniences and other sanitary defects
in the buildings, rendered the area dangerous to the health of
the inhabitants. That the demolition and re-arrangement of
the buildings were necessary to remedy the evils, and that the
site was too small to be dealt with as an unhealthy area under
Part I.
The Board directed a scheme to be carried out under Part II
of the Act.
The Local Government Board was petitioned for an order
sanctioning the scheme, and after the legal formalities had been
observed and the necessary notices served, an inquiry was held
by a Local Government Board Inspector in October, but the
decision has not yet been announced.
chusan Place Area.—After inspecting this area with the
Chairmen of the different Committees, I made an official
representation to the Board that 1, 2, 3 and 4, Chusan Place,
1 to 8, Marchants Row and 2, 4, and 13, St. Anne's Row were in
a state so dangerous to health as to be unfit for human habitation.
An order was obtained from the magistrate to have them closed.
The houses in Marchants Row have been demolished; 1 to 4,
Chusan Place are also to be demolished, but I beleive that 2, 4
and 13, St. Anne's Row are being repaired with a view of making
them fit for human habitation.
DISINFECTION.

high pressure steam disinfectors. The temperature of the steam
