Birth-Rate.
The number of births registered during the year was
1,260.

Of these 15 were recorded as illegitimate, 10 in the Dockyard
District and 5 in the Arsenal. The birth-rate, therefore, 30.3 per
thousand, that for the Dockyard being 277 per thousand, and for the
Arsenal 32.6.
For the past eight years the birth-rate has been as follows:—

Marriages.
There have been 512 marriages registered during the
year; in the first quarter 99, in the second 135, in the third 144, and
in the fourth 134.
