On the 24th March the Committee considered the several communications
referred to them on the subject of the Sale of Food and
Drugs Bill of last Session, and recommended, as suggested by the
St. Giles District Board, that a communication be addressed to the
Local Government Board urging that the Bill should be so amended
as to bring it into line with the recommendations contained in the
Report of the Select Committee of the House of Commons, presented
on the 9th April, 1896.
On the 26th June the Committee considered the reference to them
of the resolution of Stoke Newington Vestry, as to delay arising in
analysing samples of milk, &c., at Somerset House, and recommended
that the reference be discharged.
On the 28th July the Committee recommended that the Board
support the proposal of Stoke Newington Vestry in favour of an
amendment of the Food and Drugs Act, providing that the vendor of
a sample of milk, within 48 hours after receipt of notice that it is
adulterated, may require that an analysis be made by the chemical
officers at Somerset House.
On the 8th September the Committee considered the reference to
them of the proposal for bacteriological analysis of ice cream samples,
and they recommended that six samples of ice creams be obtained
and submitted to ordinary analysis by the Public Analyst as to the
wholesomeness of the article, and that the Local Government Board
be urged to take steps to secure the proper registration of itinerant
ice cream vendors.
