reference of the proposal before the London County Council to
establish a laboratory, or make such other arrangements as would
enable medical officers of health and medical practitioners in London,
to obtain the examination of pathological matter by a competent
bacteriologist at the expense of the County. The Committee recommended
that the suggestion be approved by the Board.

DISINFECTING DEPARTMENT.

The following figures give the number of premises disinfected, and the number of times the Board's apparatus was used for the two parishes, some thousands of articles being disinfected:—

The bath in connection with the disinfecting house as mentioned
in my last annual report has been erected. This bath has not only
been used by the disinfectors but also by the men engaged at the
Dust Destructor. Another bath is now being built for the last named
men.
The Equifex Drying apparatus has been fitted to the steam disinfector
at the Board's depot, Glaucus Street; with this arrangement
bedding, clothes, &c., are dried more quickly and the steam prevented
from escaping into the disinfecting house thus protecting health of
the men.
The cradle has been adapted to allow of moveable wooden shelves
being used in order to prevent articles being packed upon one another.
The steam in the disinfecting process and the hot air in the drying
can now freely circulate around beds, &c., thereby disinfection is
more speedily effected.
