Notification of Infectious Disease.
During the year 1899 the number of cases of infectious diseases
notified in accordance with The Public Health (London) Act, 1891,
was 65, as against 38 of the previous year. On referring to
Table 7 the diseases will be found specified, and the localities
wherein the cases occurred.
The fees paid to the Medical Practitioners for forwarding the
notifications of these 65 cases amounted to £G 10.s. 6d., which sum
is refunded to your Vestry by the Managers of the Metropolitan
Asylums Board.
Disinfection after Infectious Disease.
During the year 70 rooms and the contents thereof were
disinfected by your Contractor, at a cost of £82 5s. 2d.
It is satisfactory to state that no claim for compensation has ever
been made in respect of articles damaged in the course of disinfection.
The Public Health (London) Act, 1891, renders the Sanitary
authority liaDle for any such injuty.
Castle Street Schools, Long Acre.
In the latter part of the year, owing to the prevalence of
Measles amongst the scholars of the infants' department of the above
schools, I deemed it advisable to close that department for a time.
A requisition addressed to the Managers of the schools, signed
by two Members of the Vestry—your Chairman and Mr. Dudley
W. H. James—was sent, and was as follows:—

To the Managers of the Castle Street Schools,
Long Acre.
Gentlemen,
Acting under the advice of the Medical Officer of Health, we
two Members of the Vestry require you to close the infants'
department of your schools for three weeks, with a view to
preventing the spread of disease, namely, Measles.
