These 154 births will produce a birth-rate of 11.8 per 1,000.
In London, during the year 1899, the births registered numbered
133,120, giving a rate of 29.4 per 1,000 of the population. This is
the lowest London birth-rate on record.
Deaths.
The total Deaths registered in the Parish during the year 1899
were 358, an increase of 53 over the previous year, and due to the
greater number of deaths in the Charing Cross Hospital.
* To these 148 Births occurring in the Parish must be added 6 belonging to
St. Martin's, which took place at the Bear Yard Receiving Ward, making a
total of 154.
