THE STRAND DISTRICT, LONDON.
Upon the basis of the estimated population already referred to,
the death.rate for 1899 is 21.41 per thousand persons as compared
with 23.18 per thousand, the average rate for the preceding
ten years. The death.rates in the four quarters were as
follows:—
1st Quarter. 2nd Quarter. 3rd Quarter. 4th Quarter.

Strand 22.3 18.83 18.83 25.6
The London rate for the year was 19.7 per 1,000, being the
same as the decennial average.
