Health Committee, and from the report of your Board's Analyst
it will be seen that a large and varied number of articles have
been examined by him.
During 1899, Parliament has had under consideration a Bill
amending previous Acts in several particulars. Your Board made
several representations to the President of the Board of Agriculture
with reference to several matters, and several members of
the Health Committee attended on a deputation to Mr. Long to
give their views with respect to the sale of condensed, separated
or skimmed milk. The Bill eventually became law to come into
operation on January 1st, 1900. The new Act which makes
certain alterations in procedure, requires any person selling milk in
the street to have his name and address conspicuously inscribed
on the vehicle or milk receptacle; that every tin containing
condensed, separated, or skimmed milk, shall bear a label clearly
visible to the purchaser, on which the words "Machine Skimmed
Milk "or "Skimmed Milk" as the case may require are printed
in large legible type. The penalties which may be inflicted
under the Acts are made heavier.
