Towards the end of the year this complaint became prevalent
in adjoining parishes, and was doubtless introduced into the
District by children attending schools in these parishes. With the
view of checking its spread, the St. Clement Danes Infant School
was closed for a period of three weeks from 8th December, on my

Three deaths occurred in the Strand Sub-District in June,
July and September; 1 death in St. Anne's in November.
Whooping Cough.—Only one case came to my knowledge, in
St. Anne's, in January.
Ghickenpox.—3 cases occurred in January, 1 in Strand, 2 in
St. Anne's.
Mumps.—7 cases occurred in January. All went to the
same school, and 6 of them were in families living on the same
staircase in Newport Buildings.

Diarrhceal Disease.—21 deaths occurred from Acute or
Infantile Diarrhoea, 9 of the deaths being in St. Anne's, 12 in the
Strand. Several deaths were registered as due to this cause, but
