HOUSES LET IN LODGINGS.
The Public Health (London) Act, 1891, Sect. 94, makes
it compulsory for the Vestry to make and enforce Bye-laws
as to houses let in lodgings, or occupied by members of
more than one family, in respect of the following provisions
:—
1. Registration and Inspection ;
2. Fixing the number of persons who may occupy a
house or part of a house while it is let in lodgings
or occupied by members of more than one family,
and for the separation of the sexes therein ;
3. Enforcing drainage and promoting cleanliness and
ventilation in such houses ;
4. Cleansing and lime-whiting at stated intervals of
such premises;
5. Taking precautions in case of any infectious disease.
A series of Bye-laws were adopted by the Vestry on
January 21st, 1897, and confirmed by the Local Government
Board on May 11th, 1897 ; and consequently the former
Bye-laws (made by the Vestry in 1873, under Sect. 35 of
the Sanitary Act, 1866, and confirmed by the Local Government
Board on November 21st, 1873) are now repealed.

registration :—
