The Special Smoke Inspector having unfortunately
died during the year, as much attention could not
be given to smoke inspection over the Parish generally
as the Sanitary Committee could have wished, but this
important work will be carried out more vigorously during
1898, the Vestry having decided to appoint a new
Inspector.*
* This appointment was made by the Vestry on Jan. 20, 1898, and
the appointment confirmed by the Local Government Board on March 2nd,
the Inspector to devote himselt chiefly to Smoke Nuisances, and the carrying
out of the Food and Drugs and Margfarine Acts, but also to have charge of
a small District (half of Stockwell Ward). Inspector Walter J. Perrin, of
Newington Vestry, was appointed, and commenced his duties on February
21 st, 1898.
