4. The machine is specially designed so as to avoid
scorching of the articles disinfected, which are,
however, rapidly and efficiently dried;
5. A temperature of 240° F. is readily and quickly
obtained, not only at the circumference, but
also in the centre, of the articles disinfected;
6. The machine, having no jacket, is simpler in
construction, requires slightly less fuel, and
there is, in consequence, less wear and tear,
not only of the machine itself, but also of the
articles disinfected, with less tendency to
scorching, though the drying is rapid and
thorough;
7. The initial cost is slightly less.
All these advantages have been since proved practically
in the case of the machine erected at the Wanless Road
Disinfecting Station.
The cost of the Equifex machine (complete with
recording guage, boiler, etc.) was £342, and the total cost
of the disinfecting buildings in Wanless Road, up to time
of this Report, as follows:—
