The Coroner's Court at High Street sat 98 times (exclusive
of adjournments), and at Wanless Road, 71 times,,
making a total of 169, as compared with 110 during 1896.
Lambeth Parish now possesses two Mortuaries, and in
connection therewith two Inquest Rooms, and two Coroners'
Courts—the one for the Inner Wards at High Street,
Lambeth, and the other for the Outer Wards at Wanless
Road, Loughborough Junction.
It is to be regretted that the land that was purchased in
1896 by the Vestry for the erection thereon of a Mortuary
for Norwood Ward, could not, at the last, be transferred,
owing to a legal difficulty that arose in connection with the
seller. No other site has yet been fixed upon, though it
must be remembered that the Vestry have decided that a
mortuary is needed for the Norwood Ward (vide Minutes,
1896, p. 773).
