The 4,344 cases were equal to an attack-rate of 13 05 per 1,000 of the civil population.
In London the attack-rate was 11.60 per 1,000 of the civil population, or 1.45 less
than in Islington, while in the Encircling Boroughs it was 12.'73 or 0.32 below the local
rate.

Small Pox.— No case was notified in the Borough during the year. The average
number of cases during the preceding ten years was only 0 4.
Scarlet Fever.— 2,622 cases were notified, and they showed an increase of 1,616
or 161 per cent. on the average (1,006) of the ten years 1911-20. The attack-rate was
equal to 787 per 1,000 of the civil population annually, which is an increase of 4 70 per
1,000 of the mean rate (317) of the preceding ten years. In London the attack rate was
7.25 per 1,000 of the civil population, while in the Encircling Boroughs it was 8.16.
Diphtheria and Membranous Croup were responsible for 1,553 cases of illness,
and were 893 above the average (660) of the preceding ten years. The attack-rate was
equal to 4 67 per 1,000 of the civil population annually, and was 2.58 above the mean
rate (2.09) of the decennial period.
In London the attack-rate was 3.62 per 1,000, and the Encircling Boroughs 3.92.
Enteric Fever was notified in 10 instances, which is 30 below the average (40) that
obtained during the ten years 1911-20. The attack-rate was 0 03 per 1,000 annually, or
0 09 per 1,000 below the mean rate (0.12) of the last ten years.
In London the rate was 0.07, and in the Encircling Boroughs 0.07 per 1,000 of the
civil population.
Typhus Fever.— Nil return.
Continued Fever.— No case was notified.
Erysipelas.— 125 cases were notified, or 82 below the average 207 of the preceding
ten years, the attack-rate being 0 38 per 1,000 of the civil population, as compared with
0.47 in London and 0.51 in the Encircling Boroughs.
