TUBERCULOSIS.
The group of diseases, known as Tuberculosis, together caused 410 deaths, which
were 133 below the average of the last decennium, and were 15 also below the number
registered in 1920. The death rate resulting from them was equal to 123 per 1,000 of
the civil population, and represented 9 4 per cent. of the deaths from all causes during the
year.
Pulmonary Phthisis.— This is the principal disease of the tubercular group, and
it caused 355 deaths, as contrasted with the decennial average of 439, while the death-rate
was 107 per 1,000 of the civil population, as against the decennial rate of 139 per 1,000.
There was a decrease of 84 on the number of deaths, and of 0 32 on the mean death-rate.

The mortality from Phthisis was, without exception, the lowest hitherto recorded in the Borough.
